Do I need trauma therapy?

The word “trauma” sounds scary and intimidating, but to put plainly, a “trauma” is any past experience that had left a lasting negative impact in your life. Though they happened in the past, trauma often cause pain that distracts you from the present moment, holding you back from the future you deserve.

What is EMDR therapy?

As we go through life, our brain stores information in the form of memory networks (think spider webs), where one piece of information connects to the next. When traumatic events happen, maladaptive thoughts or emotions could get encoded in these networks, causing disturbance when you are reminded of these events. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a treatment that puts your brain in an optimal state of processing through the clinician’s guidance in your eye movements or finger tapping, as they facilitate the reprocessing of your traumatic memories.

EMDR therapy is a well-researched, robust treatment, and I know that not only from research data but also from my experience working with clients in my office. Unlike once-a-week traditional talk therapy, I like to work with my clients to set up a more intensive schedule so that we could address trauma symptoms as quickly as possible.
